Recruiting Participants



  • Consider how you will reach your potential participants. Not all participants will identify as part of the “blind community”, so snowball recruitment strategies may prove to be ineffective.


  • Determine if posters are appropriate for recruitment, as a visual media. If so, ensure that they are accessible. Contact local service organizations for feedback and guidance if you are unsure.


  • Work closely with local service providers. Ask for your study information to be included in newsletters, email lists, and to be promoted via word of mouth. Check out the ‘Useful Links‘ page for a list of BC-based organizations.


  • Consider volunteering for an organization working with individuals who are blind. Ensure your intent is clear from the beginning, and use it as an opportunity to first gain experience and understanding, rather than recruit participants.
