Why ‘A Closer Look’?
Currently, little knowledge exists with regards to how adults who have visual impairments experience the world around them, and what factors help or hinder them to do the things that they want and need to do in their daily lives. As a result, there is a lack of evidence from which to develop suitable policies, programs, and services.
For this gap to be successfully addressed, researchers must be aware of how their own orientation towards the visual influences how they design research, recruit, and interact with participants who have visual impairments.
While by no means exhaustive, this site provides starting points for researchers, particularly those whose sight is not impaired, to more inclusively work with adults who have visual impairments in the research process.
